Brief History of RFK Jr.
Born to a political family, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the son of Former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of Former President John F. Kennedy. Both of them lost their lives to assassinations, JFK in 1963 and RFK Sr. in 1968.
Instead of following his family into politics immediately, he set his sights on tackling environmental causes and children’s health. “He is the founder of the Waterkeeper Alliance — the world’s largest clean water advocacy group — and served as its longtime chairman and attorney. He then went on to found Children’s Health Defense, a mass membership organization where he served as chairman and chief litigation counsel in its campaign to address childhood chronic disease and toxic exposures.” - Congress.Gov
He fought as an environmental lawyer for the betterment of the planet including restoring the Hudson River as well as many cases across Latin America, Canada, and the United States.
In the wake of the news of his campaign suspension he had talked with the Former President Trump about a role in Trump's administration. "[P]harma executives and consultants and lobbyists cycle in and out of these [government regulatory] agencies," Kennedy said. "With President Trump's backing I'm going to change that. We're going to staff these agencies with honest scientists and doctors who are free from industry funding, or make sure the decisions of consumers, doctors and patients are informed by unbiased science."
RFK Jr. is often known for spreading anti-vaccine conspiracy theories as well as overall mistrust in the government agencies that oversee health in America. The likes of HHS and FDA being notable targets of his attacks. After the results of the 2024 US Presidential Election were certified, in November of 2024, President Trump nominated RFK Jr. as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services. A controversial nomination (one of many from this administration) with RFK Jr's anti-vaccine rhetoric. After hearings with congress and a vote was taken to the Senate floor, RFK Jr. was sworn in as Secretary of Health and Human services on February 13th, 2025.
Since his swearing in as Secretary of the HHS, RFK Jr. has regularly attacked the agencies he is in charge of, cutting funds to essential services, and continues to push anti-vaccination rhetoric backed by papers and resources that are discreditable.
RFK Jr.'s Statements Regarding Health
Let's take a look at actions taken and statements stated by RFK Jr. since his swearing in as Secretary of HHS.
What RFK Jr. Claims
His team would be able to find the cause of Autism by September of 2025. They almost immediately retracted that statement but are still putting concerted effort into researching the causation of Autism.
The Facts
Experts describe this effort as "misguided and unrealistic." Kennedy’s team did not provide details on research methods or cost. The Autism Society pushed back, calling it an unrealistic goal.
RFK Jr.'s "Make America Healthy Report" calls for increased scrutiny of vaccines and describes children as overmedicated.
The report was discredited due to fabricated sources and unscientific claims. Critics say it was likely AI-written and lacks proper citations.
CDC fired all 17 members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). "The public must know that unbiased science—evaluated through a transparent process and insulated from conflicts of interest—guides the recommendations of our health agencies." - RFK JR.
Multiple medicial institutes and individuals like Dr. Rubin state why this flies in the face of evidence based health and does the complete opposite of the effect RFK JR. is looking for.
RFK Jr. cites a CDC study done by Pichicero, an American physician, that children were given tuna fish sandwiches laced with high doses of mercury to test how mercury stays or dissipates from the body in regards to vaccines as a number of vaccines have small traces of mercury in them. He further goes on to say they could not find the mercury had left the childrens’ bodies either. Not in their hair, skin, or feces.
No one was given tuna fish sandwiches or methylmercury at all. So this is just a flat out lie and misremembering of the study by RFK. As for the mercury, if you read the abstraction of the study, you can clearly see that ethylmercury was found within high levels in the feces of the children who were within this study. This claim is to further push his agenda that thimerosal, which is a preservative found in some vaccines, that has ethylmercury in it is harmful to children. We seem to be drumming up a sensational story where the facts don’t matter and references to research articles serve as nothing more than appeals to authority.” - Dr.Noc PhD Scientist
RFK Jr cuts off funding to Gavi, Vaccine Health Alliance. This decision was made from the findings of one study from 2017 that was published in the peer-review journal eBioMedicine.
This study has numerous errors and has been put up against other studies and research to be proven incorrect or out of date. The DPT vaccine has saved over 40 million lives in the past 50 years.has saved over 40 million lives in the past 50 years. "People like Kennedy then put their little poker in and pull out the very specific study that suits their agenda," says Dr. Beate Kampmann, vaccinologist and pediatrician.
He insists that mercury in vaccines is still causing harm to children.
Thimerosal (mercury-based) has been removed or reduced to trace amounts in vaccines since early 2000s, per CDC and FDA guidelines.
Continuing to claim that vaccines cause Autism in a recent interview with Tucker Carlson. During this interview he specifically cited a 1999 CDC study which alleged the hepatitis B vaccine is the direct cause of Autism.
Studies showing there is no causal link between any vaccine and autism. The Institute of Medicine in their 2011 report concluded that “favors rejection of a causal relationship” between the MMR vaccine and autism.
More false claims that RFK Jr. made in this interview with Carlson and why this misinformation is dangerous.
